Lacoste
Lacoste

The Lacoste brand was founded in 1933 by French tennis player René Lacoste. Lacoste is considered the first clothing company to visibly display its brand logo on its clothing, making it a pioneer in the fashion world. The crocodile, which serves as Lacoste's corporate logo, dates back to an incident in the early 1920s. While window-shopping in Boston, teammate Pierre Gillou promised René Lacoste an alligator-skin suitcase if Lacoste won the match that was taking place that same day. Lacoste lost the match, but the nickname "The Crocodile" stuck and was picked up by the press. Lacoste eventually had a green crocodile sewn onto the chest of his tennis clothing, and thus the famous logo was born.
