New Balance
New Balance

English immigrant William J. Riley founded the New Balance Arch Support Company in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1906. Riley developed insoles that supported the human foot at three points, relieving pressure while simultaneously providing better footing. Simply put, they were intended to provide a "NEW BALANCE." New Balance has been manufacturing custom-fit shoes for sports such as boxing, tennis, baseball, and running since 1941. New Balance achieved a milestone in the history of running in 1960 with the Trackster, the first running shoe with a ridged sole.

Cult brand with the N

New Balance establishes itself in the market, despite its marketing being based entirely on word of mouth. Long-distance runner Tom Flemming competes in the new New Balance M320 and wins the 1975 New York Marathon, prompting Runners World magazine to crown it the best running shoe in the world. Word of New Balance's success and quality quickly spread, laying the foundation for the global marketing of the sneakers with the "N" logo. By the end of the 1980s, New Balance had long since become a cult brand, not only among athletes but also among countless casual wearers.
