Lyle & Scott was founded in 1874 in Hawick, Scotland – making the brand over 150 years old and one of the most traditional labels in our range. Originally started as a knitwear manufacturer, Lyle & Scott has undergone a remarkable transformation over the decades: from a classic golf outfitter to a staple in casual culture.

The golden eagle logo (Eagle) is the trademark and tells the brand’s story: In the 80s, British football casuals discovered the brand, and since then, Lyle & Scott has been an indispensable part of the terrace scene. Unlike many heritage brands that awkwardly try to be modern, Lyle & Scott has naturally mastered this balance – the pieces are classic enough for the office look and cool enough for a stadium visit. Materials & Quality

Lyle & Scott comes from a knitwear tradition, and you can tell. The sweaters and knitwear use fine lambswool or merino blends (often 100% cotton in the lighter models) – soft, shape-retaining, and not scratchy.

The crewneck sweater with the Eagle logo is a modern basic that still looks good after dozens of washes.

Polo shirts are made from pique cotton, typically 210–230 g/m2 – noticeably heavy and durable. The collars keep their shape, the colors hold up, and the fit changes minimally after washing. T-shirts are around 160–180 g/m2 cotton – light and comfortable, but not as heavy as those from C.P. Company.

The jackets – especially the Harringtons and softshell models – use cotton-nylon blends with good craftsmanship. Not high-end tech fabrics, but absolutely solid for the price point. Zippers are mostly YKK – a good sign of durability.

Fit & Size Advice

Lyle & Scott fits in a classic British way: rather slim cut, but not skin-tight. The fit sits close to the body without constricting. For Germans and Austrians who are used to more generous cuts, Lyle & Scott can be surprising at first.

Specific recommendation: For polo shirts and T-shirts, take your normal size if you want a modern, fitted look. For a looser fit, order one size up. For sweaters: true to size (TTS) for the classic look. For jackets, we recommend TTS – they are cut so that a thin sweater fits underneath, but there isn’t enough room for heavy layering.

Note on length: Lyle & Scott is cut slightly shorter in the torso than many German brands. If you are over 185 cm tall, consider trying one size larger.

In summer, T-shirts in muted colors (navy, olive, burgundy) combined with light shorts and white sneakers are a staple. Avoid bright neon colors – the calm tones better match the brand identity.
